Beauty...

Beauty, a pleasing and impressive quality of something/pleasing personal appearance.  This simple word has played many positions in our society, and is often easily bent up/skewed by the media.  It is no wonder why most have been brainwashed to disguise themselves as picture perfect celeb.  The word "Beauty" itself has been severely mis-perceived, and the blame is held by corporations hand.  Advertisement around every corner has a fake flawless individual with a pair of underwear on, basically shoving an "example" down society's throat through a visual mega phone.  Does this honestly appeal to the average individuals eye? Or is the constant ads that we see daily that we've just learned to accept?  Society is swallowing all these corporate definitions of beauty and its construing its REAL identity. I believe beauty is carried through the natural un-facaded part of an individuals soul.  Emotion, compassion, substance, and core are the things I personally point out.  Any buffoon can give the impression of being attractive, very few people have substance... Though one example of corporations clearly only focusing on their wealth is the "the campaign for real beauty" by Dove. They advocate that beauty is in everyone, which i agree.  But, who would of known that Axe and Dove are both owned by Unilever? So they're the same company, yet the two brands have very different views when it comes to women. They are running a business and of course it's about profits. This campaign is not about changing society's view on true beauty.  Its more like more money, simply because its intrigued the vast majority of society and have us believing that their intentions are trustworthy. Its just another clever marketing scheme. While axe is degrading women, dove makes up for their extra weight on the see-saw in our society's play ground. These thoughts are far from stray, corporations run government, public space, and now our english language.  Just a couple vague constructed ideas...

  1. So the first thing that came to mind when I read your post was the movie, "The Devil Wears Prada". Honestly my girlfriend made we watch it, but I do think it raises some points. The fashion industry spends billions of dollars a year on helping people find their personality(s) through fashion. They are who dictate the beauty to the media, as those hounds gobble that shit up like it was turkey day. Unilever, does the same thing. By using cunning tactics and psychologically appealing methods, they continuously infect our minds into attraction to "their" beauty. If the fashion empire crashed tomorrow and no one took their place to rebuild people would forget and life would once again go back to the essentials. I'm with you on seeing through these marketing campaigns and realizing that we should focus on the more fruitful aspects of "real" beauty, or at least what sensitizes our own mind instead of being spoon fed by the hierarchy.
